DIY: “Marry Me” Marquee Letter Sign

One of our customers sent us these pictures of a DIY Project he did using our 5MM LED String Lights – We LOVED it, and had to share it with you!

Items Needed:

- 12” Pre-Cut Wooden Letters Spelling “Marry Me”
- 2 Sets of 5MM Warm White 70ct. LED String Lights (#45693R-B)
- Power Drill
- 5/16” Drill Bit
- Tape Measure or Ruler

Our customer David was looking for a unique and heartfelt way to propose to his girlfriend. After a brainstorming session with his crafty sister, he decided to make his own marquee letter sign that said “MARRY ME”. He found pre-cut wooden letters at a local craft store (which his sister knew they would have), and came to our website to find the perfect lights (which his sister also knew we would have, since she has purchased from us before). David is somewhat of a handy guy himself, so he already had the drill and drill bit needed to complete the project.

He started by marking the backside of the letters, first marking the center of each letter, so all the holes would line up. He then marked the spots where he was going to drill each hole, which ended up about 1½” apart.

Once all the holes were marked and drilled,

the lights were added.

Tip from David: With the letter face down (back side of letter), make sure to start the lights on the right side of the letter, and end the lights on the left side of the letter - That way the lights can continue from letter-to-letter, without having to double back across the letter you just lit.

David’s holes were snug, and the lights held tight upon pushing them into the holes. If your lights do not fit tight, you can use a little super glue to secure them in place.

Tip from David: Drill some test holes in a scrap piece of wood before drilling your letters - That way you can test the hole size with the lights, to see if you need your hole to be smaller or larger, and can adjust the drill bit as needed.

The proposal took place in David’s friend’s backyard, which is where David and his girlfriend met…..on these very chairs.
